RADICAL SOUNDSCAPE

Radical Soundscape, before being an interactive installation, is a project which promotes a revolutionary understanding around plants' consciousness and sensitivity. The installation navigates the possibility of creating live and dynamic sounds through our engagement with nature, allowing for sonic encounters to unfold in an immersive manner.

In the interactive installation, biofeedback from the plants is used to generate a soundscape.

Intrigued by plants with fast response mechanisms, I began monitoring the fluctuations in the plants' electrical charge and designed a system based on Arduino to pick up on the plants’ capacitance. When the plant is touched an electrical signal is produced and translated into sound in real-time by using Max MSP.

This method of data sonification has allowed me to make the concealed characteristics of plants more perceptible and tangible. As my research evolves in exploring bioacoustics so does this project and its sounds.

Radical Soundscape has been selected by Quiet Ensemble and exhibited at the Blooming Festival in Italy, as well as in London at the IMT Gallery and at London College of Communication during the Degree Show of 2022
