RADICAL SOUNDSCAPE
Radical Soundscape is an interactive installation and ongoing research project that challenges conventional perceptions of plant consciousness and sensitivity. It explores human interaction with nature through a generative soundscape, creating a unique and immersive sensory experience.
Inspired by plants with rapid response mechanisms, the installation monitors plants’ biofeedback to capture fluctuations in electrical activity and translate them into sound. This process of data sonification reveals the otherwise imperceptible behaviors of most plants, making them both tangible and audible.
The latest iteration of the work uses AI-generate sounds from scientific research on plant bioacoustics. Visitors are invited to gently touch the flowers and explore a library of speculative sounds.
Radical Soundscape has been selected by interactive creative duo Quiet Ensemble and exhibited at the Blooming Festival in Italy (2022), as well as in London at the IMT Gallery(2022), London College of Communication(2022), Pushkin House(2023), Second Home Spitalfields (2024) and Acrylize(2025), where it was exhibited for Softer Digital Futures London.
